Get the Gringo (2012)
A Mini Movie Review by Dave Randal
Plot: A career criminal nabbed by Mexican authorities is placed in a tough
prison where he learns to survive with the help of a young boy.
If you have missed the classic action movie Mel Gibson that you use to get in movies like Lethal Weapon (1987) then Get the Gringo
should be right up your alley. In the movie Mel Gibson plays a career
criminal and gets caught by Mexican authorities and thrown into prison.
The cool thing about this prison though is that it is unlike any prison
you have ever seen.
From the looks of the prison you can tell it may
have acted as a regular prison at one point, but now it is overcrowded
and pretty much anything goes. Drugs are being sold right out in the
open, men and women are in the prison, and if a prisoner has enough
money they can even have it so their family can live their. Now that's
one disorganized and screwed up prison. In a weird way it kind of
reminds me of the movie Escape From New York (1981), where a wall has been constructed all around New York with all the countries convicts thrown into it.
It is technically a prison movie but it is unlike any prison movie you
have ever seen. The thing I liked best about this movie is that Mel
Gibson goes back to his action movie roots. His character makes friends
with a young chain smoking boy and they have great chemistry. This
movie kind of fell off the radar for a lot of people so if you haven't
seen it then check it out. I strongly recommend it.
