A Christmas Story (1983)
A Mini Movie Review by Dave Randal

Plot: Ralphie has to convince his parents, teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect gift for Christmas in the 1940s.

When I think about what my favorite Christmas movie is there really is only one movie I keep coming back to.  That's A Christmas Story.  It's amazing to see how the popularity of this movie has grown over the years.  It was a sleeper hit back in 1983 in the box office and it took about fifteen years to obtain the reputation that it has now by playing over and over on TV during the holidays.

Sure the repeated showings may be hammering it in, but I think the movie is really good.  The movie is based in the 1940s and was made in 1983, but I think it is one of those movies that just doesn't get old.  The movie is really funny and you can tell that it has a lot of heart.  Personally I can relate with this movie a lot, because it reminds me more than any other movie how great Christmas was as a kid.

I'm glad that the movie has become popular, but I don't think it is totally great.  The "genius" empty suits in Hollywood felt the urge to make some easy cash by making a half-assed direct-to-DVD sequel this year.  Stuff like that really just makes me want to shoot both my eyes out with a Red Ryder BB gun.  If you have never seen this movie first I have to ask how is that even possible with TBS' 24-hour marathon of it?  If you want to see a movie that will put a smile on your face and show you how great Christmas was as a kid then you should really watch it.
