Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994)
A Mini Movie Review by Dave Randal
Plot: A group of teenagers get into a car crash on prom night and accidentally wander into the old farmhouse of Leatherface and his cannibalistic family.
Well if you wanted to know where the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise hit a brick wall then look no further. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation is without a doubt the worst movie in this entire franchise. This entire movie is just a mess from the acting, to the script, and even all the way up to the studio and marketing for it.
I'll give a brief history of the problems the producers had with releasing this piece of crap they call a movie. It was originally suppose to be distributed by Columbia Pictures, but they decided to hold off on it's release for three years until after Renée Zellweger's new film, Jerry Maguire (1996) came out in 1996. After that another problem came up. Matthew McConaughey's agent put pressure on Columbia to not release it theatrically most likely due to McConaughey becoming a much bigger star at the time and probably knowing this abomination that they called a movie would hurt his career.
Unfortunately for all of us this movie did get released finally in 1997. In a lot of ways it is very similar to Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990), only unlike that movie it just isn't good. The acting by the cast is absolutely horrendous. The only one who gets a little pass is Matthew McConaughey and that is only because he hams it up really well. The worst part of this movie is near the end when it just completely drives right off a cliff. They bring in this character out of no where and the entire movie's genre just seems to change without any explanation what so ever.
It is very rare that a movie just frustrates me, but that is exactly what this movie did. If I could find every copy of this I would take a chainsaw to them one by one.
