Plot: A chronicle of the decade-long hunt for al-Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden after the September 2001 attacks, and his death at the hands of the Navy S.E.A.L. Team 6 in May 2011.

When I saw the first trailer for Zero Dark Thirty I was pretty worried that it would just be a big piece of political propaganda.  I don't think anyone could seriously blame me for thinking that either.  I'm very libertarian so I'm very much against any movie that would support the ideas of war or force in general.  After watching it though I realized that they kept the political stuff very minimal and I ended up really enjoying it.

The movie chronicles the decade-long hunt for al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.  Jessica Chastain plays a CIA agent named Maya who follows a lead on where Osama bin Laden is.  She works on it for years and finally figures out through more leads where he is.  After that she has to convince her superiors that it is worth the risk to go after him.

Originally I wasn't too excited about this movie.  The first trailer for it looked alright, but like I said before I was kind of worried about how much political stuff would be in it.  Then I saw the final trailer which featured a Metallica cover song "Nothing Else Matters" by a Belgian women's choir named Scala & Kolancy Brothers.  The trailer was phenomenal and the music fit in remarkably.  I'm a big fan of watching trailers and this easily became one of my all time favorites.

Being so impressed by the trailer brought on another worry for me though.  Now I was afraid that the movie wouldn't be able to live up to the trailer.  After watching the movie I can report that it totally does live up to the trailer.  Now I'm not going to say that everyone will enjoy this movie, but I certainty did.   It is pretty slow although it kept up a good enough pace for me to enjoy it.  It is also pretty long, but I didn't seem to notice that too much.  If you can get into the story and have some knowledge of the politics and events surrounding it, I think you are going to be able to enjoy it a lot more.

Jessica Chastain does a great job as the character Maya although the character is  kind of low-key throughout the movie with sudden bursts of intensity.  I would have liked them to get into the character's back story a little bit more so that we could see what is motivating her, but it is more of a plot driven movie so I didn't mind that they left a lot of that out.  Actor Jason Clarke played the role of a CIA agent named Dan and he put on a great performance.  It would be awesome to see him get more bigger roles after this movie.

I ended up liking this movie way more than I thought I would.  The filmmakers took a current event and made a great piece of art out of it.  With a lot of the crap and just plain mediocre stuff coming out now it is nice to see a movie like this every once and a while.  If you want to watch a movie that makes you think a little bit and rewards you for being patient, then this movie was made for someone like you.
